Earlier this year, we were awarded a grant from the Oklahoma Historical Society to add new security cameras to the museum, among other things. I have purchased and received 16 new cameras (8 to replace the current cameras, and 8 more to add coverage to areas not currently videoed), and now they need to be installed. Unfortunately, when I wrote the grant proposal, Jeffrey was still here and advised me to not request funds for installation, as we could just have “Vernon’s handyman” do the job. When I discussed this with Sue earlier this month, she didn’t even know who Jeffrey was referring to and understandably wanted the job to be done by professionals. I am currently working to get a good set of estimates for the installation, and will update the board and call for a vote when I have a selection to choose from.
I (Amy) was contacted by a group of paranormal investigators who want to rent the house for a night to "ghost hunt". They haven't chosen a date yet, but are hoping for sometime this fall, and are just looking for permission right now.
They would come in at around 8pm and be at the house until about 2am-ish. I don't love the idea of having to be here that late, but I may be able to find a volunteer who could stay to supervise. We have a young married couple who volunteer for us who may be willing to help. The investigators are willing to pay for the rental ($50 per hour, so $200-350, depending on how long they stay), and I think we could ask them to give some publicity to the museum and to allow us to take photos to share on our social media. If they "make contact", maybe we can even get the museum added to the Downtown Norman Ghost Tour.
As far as what they plan to do, they gave me this description: "We usually start our investigations around 8 and they usually end anywhere from 2 to 3 a.m. if we're making a lot of communication it can last up to 4 to 5 we basically take a lot of pictures we set up a device called The Rim pod and if a spirit is near it or communicating with us it will go off we use the Spirit Box which is a device you can communicate with and we also use our laptop or tablet to speak to them also if there's any children Spirits we usually bring up a toy that can light up or go off and make a noise we could use a Twist flashlight and the spirits will actually use the flashlight to turn on." I don't really understand all of that, but it sounds like they bring minimal equipment and wouldn't need to move furniture or anything like that. And they said specifically that they don't do ouijia boards or seances or black magic, I guess they want it to seem more scientific.
I know this all sounds odd, and if you all aren't comfortable with the idea, I can tell them that we don't allow ghost hunting, butI hate to turn down a chance for extra income, especially with our NAC grant income down from $5550 per year to only $3000 (and I wouldn't be surprised if they cut it even more).
Response Form Reminder: Everyone must fill out their name as proof of attendance. Comments or questions are encouraged but not required. Remember, we aren't voting yet, just discussing. We'll vote with a different form later.
